Bundesliga - Round-up: Werder falter in Frankfurt

Ten-man Werder Bremen lost 1-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt, handing Bayern Munich a chance to move six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga when they play on Sunday.

Duisburg gave themselves renewed hopes of survival as they handed Bielefeld a fourth successive defeat.

The visitors took the lead when Bielefeld cleared a corner only to then invite Silvio Schroeter to beat the offside trap and supply a simple finish in the eighth minute.

Duisburg doubled their lead early in the second half when Manasseh Ishiaku chipped the keeper from 10 metres following another defensive slip.

BAYER LEVERKUSEN 1 SCHALKE 0

Schalke went into the game with the advantage of an extra two days' rest from European duty in midweek but it was Leverkusen who showed more stamina as they clinched victory with a dream goal from Manuel Friedrich five minutes from time.

Friedrich took the ball in from the touchline on the right and swept in a superb shot from around 35 metres that beat Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer and effectively took Leverkusen into third place.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND 1 HANSA ROSTOCK 0

Dortmund claimed their second successive Bundesliga win thanks to a tap-in from Diego Klimowicz after a low cross from defender Antonio Rukavina had surprised the Rostock defence in the 67th minute.

"They were three very important points but it certainly wasn't pretty," said Dortmund coach Thomas Doll.

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT 1 WERDER BREMEN 0

Werder, feeling the effects of a UEFA Cup game on Thursday, started badly and were down to 10 men in the 40th minute when Diego barged into Ioannis Amanatidis off the ball.

Amanatidis put Eintracht ahead with a swift break in the 56th minute and the home side held on as Werder suddenly upped their game, playing much better with 10 than they had with 11.

STUTTGART 3 KARLSRUHE 1

Stuttgart scored three goals for the second weekend in succession as they clinched a satisfying derby win.

Mario Gomez struck his 11th league goal of the season to put the home side ahead in the fifth minute, side-footing in from outside the area after a rebound had dropped to him kindly.

Roberto Hilbert made it 2-0 in the 25th minute, stabbing in from close range, but Stuttgart eased up and might easily have paid the price, with Tamas Hajnal getting a goal back when he squeezed in a shot nine minutes from time.

Stuttgart were looking nervous before Cacau, set up by Antonio da Silva's fine pass, settled the match two minutes from the end.

VfL WOLFSBURG 0 HERTHA BERLIN 0

Wolfsburg failed to extend their four-match winning streak but were at least able to hang on for a point after Hertha came at them strongly over the last half-hour.
