The English sides' midweek Champions League opponents shaped up for the last 16 in ominous fashion, with all four teams winning.

Internazionale (face Manchester United on February 24 at the Giuseppe Meazza and at Old Trafford on March 11)

Bologna 1-2 Internazionale

Serie A leaders Inter had a late Mario Balotelli goal to thank for their win at Bologna on Saturday that kept them nine points clear of Juventus. Coach Jose Mourinho resisted the temptation to rotate his squad ahead of Tuesday's visit from United, but saw his side labour before Esteban Cambiasso opened the scoring with a close-range finish just before the hour, although Adriano appeared to handle in the build-up. Miguel Britos equalised 11 minutes from time before Balotelli headed in a free-kick from fellow substitute Patrick Vieira on 82 minutes.

Roma (face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on February 24 and at the Stadio Olimpico on March 11)

Roma 1-0 Siena

Luciano Spalletti's depleted side returned to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over strugglers Siena, and stayed sixth in the table. Rodrigo Taddei scored the only goal just after the hour mark, curling a superb shot into the top cormer. Captain Francesco Totti, whose season has been disrupted by injury, played 81 minutes but Mirko Vucinic, Max Tonetto, Marco Cassetti, Alberto Aquilani and Jeremy Menez did not feature, while Simone Perrotta and Daniele De Rossi were suspended.

Real Madrid (face Liverpool at the Bernabeu on February 25 and at Anfield on March 10)

Real Madrid 6-1 Real Betis

While Liverpool were struggling to a draw against Manchester City, Real did all the damage in the first half before cruising through the second against beleaguered Betis. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Raul scored twice each while Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Ramos added one each - all before half-time - with Ricardo Oliveira replying for the visitors. Real have won nine games in a row and had an extra 20 hours to prepare for Wednesday's match.

Juventus (face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on February 25 and at the Stadio Olimpico on March 10)

Palermo 0-2 Juventus

Mohamed Sissoko was the star turn as Juventus maintained their slim hopes of winning Serie A with a win in Sicily. The Malian midfielder opened the scoring with a sensational solo effort, beating several players before lashing his shot into the roof of the net. David Trezeguet made the points safe 11 minutes from time, while goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon made good saves from Fabrizio Miccoli and Fabio Simplicio.
