Joey Barton has leaked pictures of England's new shirt online, forcing the FA to release their official images of it early.

The Queens Park Rangers midfielder posted a picture of himself on Twitter next to the new shirt, which is white with simple red piping, a red England badge and a red makers' logo.

Barton was reportedly invited to a private viewing of the new kit by shirt makers Umbro, and posted pictures of himself standing next to a mannequin sporting the new gear.

The shirt makers, having had their embargo broken by the outspoken star, then had little choice but to release more pictures of the new shirt via their official website.

The new kit, which England will wear for the first time in next week's friendly against the Netherlands, had already been controversial. England's current shirt deal includes a new strip every 18 months, meaning that the outgoing white-with-blue design has only been worn eight times.

It may be the closest that Barton gets to wearing the kit himself - unless he gets himself down Sports Direct and buys one.

Although he is unlikely to fancy handing over any cash to Mike Ashley through his sporting goods empire...
