Manager Stuart McCall expressed his delight for Michael Higdon after the Motherwell top-scorer bagged at hat-trick in the 4-3 Clydesdale Bank Premier League win over Hibernian at Fir Park.
Motherwell moved within three points of second-placed Rangers with victory in a pulsating encounter.
Isaiah Osbourne fired Hibs into a half-time lead, before Higdon (penalty) and Jamie Murphy put the hosts ahead - only for the visitors to respond immediately through Matt Doherty.
Motherwell took the lead for the second time through a wonderful overhead kick from Higdon on 70 minutes and the Englishman then added his third from penalty spot five minutes later before Ivan Sproule blasted Hibs' third.
"Obviously as a centre-forward he is judged on goals, but although he hasn't been scoring recently, he has been a big part of our team," said McCall. "I am delighted for him, he has received a bit of unfair criticism from a minority of the support but he has got on with things and given everything.
"He's never let us down and even if he hadn't scored tonight I thought his all round play was excellent."
