Woody eyes strong finish to season

Sun 23 Mar, 01:00 PM

Jonathan Woodgate has called on Tottenham to keep pushing for a higher position right until the end of the Premier League season.Currently 11th in the Premier League, Spurs have no worries over relegation and have already booked qualification for Europe by winning the Carling Cup.

However, Woodgate believes a strong finish to the season would set Spurs up well for next term.

"Because we've won a trophy and qualified for Europe again, people are saying we're not bothered now, but that's far from the truth," he told the Sunday Times.

"We want to win as many games as we can to push ourselves up the league.

"We've got the players to do a lot better next season, and I'm sure the manager will add to the squad in the summer. Pressure for your place brings that bit extra out of you."

Woodgate joined Spurs from Middlesbrough in the January transfer window and he feels the move has helped him rediscover his hunger for the game.

He explained: "At Middlesbrough there was no European football and I need that to push myself on to another level.

"I didn't want to stay up there and have an easy life, and there was a danger of me falling into that comfort zone.

"I've got that winning mentality again. It's what we had at Real Madrid and it's the same here because Juande Ramos instils it into you."
