Little backs players to bounce back

Wed 23 Apr, 11:15 AM

Brian Little believes his players can come back "more resilient" after Wrexham's 87-year tenure in the Football League came to an end.Little's men were relegated on Tuesday night after a 2-0 defeat at Hereford.

The Dragons started off well and went close to opening the scoring through Matty Done, but after Gary Hooper's opener just before the interval the promotion chasing Bulls never looked back.

Teenager Theo Robinson scored Hereford's second with a close-range shot past goalkeeper Gavin Ward to secure the three points and the Dragons' relegation out of League Two.

Little said: "In some respect it's the wrong group of players to sample relegation but you can say it's a big lesson for them for the next part of their lives.

"Sometimes when you taste something that is horrible you become more resilient and go on and do lots of things. I have just said to them that I first sampled this in my first role of football management and then went on for the next five years in a row to win two championships and go to three play-off finals.

"Because it hurts like hell I was determined it wouldn't happen again and it has taken 18-20 years to get it again. Yes it is a horrible day and once again we probably gifted Hereford the two goals."
