Wed 23 Apr, 05:15 PM

Kevin Phillips has branded speculation claiming he has turned down a new contract and will leave West Brom in the summer as "nonsense".Phillips, whose current deal expires this summer, has scored 22 league goals to help the Baggies to the verge of promotion back to the Premier League.

And the 34-year-old on Wednesday instantly dismissed the rumours his future will lie away from The Hawthorns, having been linked with a move to Wigan.

Phillips said: "I want to stress to the supporters that this is nonsense. I haven't rejected a new contract and I haven't a clue who the so-called source of the story is supposed to be.

"We've got two massive games coming up and we're all going to sit down after our season has finished and try to come to an agreement over the future.

"This is what my agent told a local newspaper two weeks ago and nothing has changed since."

Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace has also confirmed negotiations with the club's top-scorer and his representatives over a new deal are "ongoing".
