Defender Manny Smith is targeting a new contract with Walsall this summer and a regular place in manager Chris Hutchings's first team next season.

The 20-year-old youth team product is one of 13 Saddlers players out of contract in the summer.

But, after impressing in 19 starts since his promotion into the first team, he hopes to earn a new deal and a regular starting slot.

"This has been my breakthrough season," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"I have had a good run of games now and hopefully I can look forward to next season.

"My contract is up in the summer. I have had to prove to the gaffer what I can do, that I can be trusted and that I am a decent player at this level.

"I need to keep playing 100 per cent, and doing what I can do, and then, hopefully, I will get picked every game and keep improving."
