'To go the way of the Dodo' could describe the plight of Charlton Athletic - alternatively, it might be a reference to a Corinthians defender moving to Old Trafford.
Jose Rodolfo Pires Ribeiro 'Dodo' is reportedly set for move to Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson keen to seal a deal for the 17-year-old centre back.
Ferguson has been tipped off by his South America-based scouts, who are understood to be huge admirers of the Brazilian.
The Mirror claim that the defender has an EC passport through his Portugese background, with United reportedly willing to pay up to £5 million, following a nominal initial fee.
The imposing, left-footed Dodo is regarded as the long-term replacement for Rio Ferdinand, with United's scouts impressed with the Brazilian's skill and composure on the ball.
'Dodo' would join his compatriot defenders, Rafael and Fabio Da Silva at the English champions if the move goes through in the summer as expected.
The same paper links Ferguson with a move for another defender, Victor Mongil of Real Valladolid.
The 16-year-old is another unearthed by the club's extensive European scouting network, and would represent a similar steal to that of Federico Marcheda according to his sources.
Staying at Old Trafford, and there is yet more speculation that Carlos Tevez is becoming increasingly agitated at the club and seeking a move elsewhere.
This familiar method of playground ultimatum will not endear the Argentine to his boss Ferguson, who remains reluctant to blow his summer budget on the forward.
Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all tracking CSKA Moscow's Czech international striker Tomas Necid.
With the Russian club's North Stand often teeming with scouts, the 19-year-old is understood to be available at £3m.
Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o claims he has turned down a £35m move to Manchester City, according to the Mirror.
The 'bashful' Cameroon star also reveals that Internazionale's interest in him has been quashed, expressing his desire to instead sign an extended contract at the Nou Camp.
The Sun report that Tottenham are keen on signing Lokomotiv Moscow goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, who is currently on loan at Grasshoppers Zurich, as back-up for Heurelho Gomes. But hang on, what about Carlo 'I'm leaving Chelsea to play every week' Cudicini?
The Daily Record have compiled a list of Hibs and Aberdeen players who are set to leave their respective clubs in the summer.
Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen reportedly fears striker Steven Fletcher and defender Rob Jones could both leave Easter Road.
Nottingham Forest have been linked with a £1m move for Jones, while Celtic are understood to be tracking Fletcher.
The same paper insists that Hearts midfielder Bruno Aguiar, will be left to take his pick between Rangers and Celtic at the end of the season.
Derby County defender Claude Davis hopes his loan spell at Crystal Palace will be turned into a permanent move, though the transfer fee remains a sticking point.
The Sun reveal that Watford boss Brendan Rogers has told the club's record-signing Nathan Ellington that he has no future at the club. Those sentiments are sure to delight the club's board.
And finally, The Sun report that Carlo Ancelotti must be heading to Stamford Bridge since the Chelsea-target has been learning English - ironically with the assistance of David Beckham.
"Every time I try to fix his English, he insists on making errors and we end up laughing," said Beckham. Oh the banter!

I am a non-English speaking coach from Iceland. I want to start learning English so I can get a job in the EPL. Which words should I learn first? I have three months to start the job.
stupid !!!!!!!
stupid !!!!!!!
Scott S makes a good point. There is no incentive for clubs at Championship level or below to have a great academy if all that happens is a bigger club takes that player for a joke fee at a tribunal.
This does go on, it has happened to my club in the last close season. It has been going on for years, but that does not make it right.
Tevez worth around 17-20 mil not 32 fu.ckers
Roger Stack would be a great buy for united i like his style!!!! ALF!!!!!
Tevez has won everything every player would want to win and he should be either quiet or grateful but not mouthful.
Hey, I'm an open minded girl from UK, I'm interested in exotic things, photography, dating and sports...I have my photos on --- T a l l h u b Co m ---, I love tall guys!
Do you love traveling and have some experience? Just find me out.
Will somebody please tell me what it is that clint.brownfield is actually trying to say. Beats me.
I say Tevez is worth around 7-9 mill nor more
tevez has to go stay at united he works so well with the player and if he goes united will be fool to let him go
Scott S: do your homework, none of your comments are true or make sense. The reason Arsenal are in the mess they're in is by playing too many young players when you need experienced men on the pitch. They've really ruined Clichy, Song, Toure, Denilson, Fabregas & co haven't they?
no 5 to be a champ....u cant always spend ur money for star player...man united is balance team...young,younger,n veteran...they always stick n do like this from past 15 years... arsenal learn something from past 3 season when they have unbalance squad..al of they player onlyl young n younger only...so they buy arshavin this season even it a bit to late....n as u can see rite now they have good run 19 game unbeated...if they can buy some good central defence to back up if 11 eleven injured or suspend im sure next season gonna be more tought...for any team to be a no 1..
To Cockrowinto.
I think you will find that David Beckham came from Tottenhams academy not Manchester United.
He left there at about 14 or 15 having been there to for a number of years.
Hope united win nothing this season - keep half of their over mouthed fans quiet.
Tevez is definitely over-priced and it's not his or ManU fault that no contract has been offered so far. On another note it is quite strange that ManU of late has been depending on youngsters from outside the BPL rather than developing their own. It would be nice to see our own youngsters coming up the ranks just like the Nevilles, Scholes, Beckham and Giggs.
I can't stand tevez, i hope he goes, we can then buy Torres because he must want to win something in his career?
unlike gerrard who will stay, big man in a little pond.....
FERGIE IS AFTER ANOTHER DODO LIKE BERBATOV.GLORY GLORY MAN UTD.
MAN UTD CHAMPIONS
darrenwalsh98; Take your political rants and stick them up your A RSE! This is a comments page about football NOT a place for some in-bred scumbag, stuck in the dark ages to come in and ATTEMPT to lecture.
Back to FOOTBALL. Does anyone else thing that the United and Liverpool Spurs games could be pivotal or do you think it's over already?
Tevez is great but no way will United be held to ransome for him. He'll go elsewhere I think.
