Transfers - Gossip Shop: United dying for Dodo

Eurosport - Thu, 23 Apr 23:32:00 2009

'To go the way of the Dodo' could describe the plight of Charlton Athletic - alternatively, it might be a reference to a Corinthians defender moving to Old Trafford.

Jose Rodolfo Pires Ribeiro 'Dodo' is reportedly set for move to Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson keen to seal a deal for the 17-year-old centre back.

Ferguson has been tipped off by his South America-based scouts, who are understood to be huge admirers of the Brazilian.

The Mirror claim that the defender has an EC passport through his Portugese background, with United reportedly willing to pay up to £5 million, following a nominal initial fee.

The imposing, left-footed Dodo is regarded as the long-term replacement for Rio Ferdinand, with United's scouts impressed with the Brazilian's skill and composure on the ball.

'Dodo' would join his compatriot defenders, Rafael and Fabio Da Silva at the English champions if the move goes through in the summer as expected.

The same paper links Ferguson with a move for another defender, Victor Mongil of Real Valladolid.

The 16-year-old is another unearthed by the club's extensive European scouting network, and would represent a similar steal to that of Federico Marcheda according to his sources.

Staying at Old Trafford, and there is yet more speculation that Carlos Tevez is becoming increasingly agitated at the club and seeking a move elsewhere.

This familiar method of playground ultimatum will not endear the Argentine to his boss Ferguson, who remains reluctant to blow his summer budget on the forward.

Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all tracking CSKA Moscow's Czech international striker Tomas Necid.

With the Russian club's North Stand often teeming with scouts, the 19-year-old is understood to be available at £3m.

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o claims he has turned down a £35m move to Manchester City, according to the Mirror.

The 'bashful' Cameroon star also reveals that Internazionale's interest in him has been quashed, expressing his desire to instead sign an extended contract at the Nou Camp.

The Sun report that Tottenham are keen on signing Lokomotiv Moscow goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, who is currently on loan at Grasshoppers Zurich, as back-up for Heurelho Gomes. But hang on, what about Carlo 'I'm leaving Chelsea to play every week' Cudicini?

The Daily Record have compiled a list of Hibs and Aberdeen players who are set to leave their respective clubs in the summer.

Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen reportedly fears striker Steven Fletcher and defender Rob Jones could both leave Easter Road.

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a £1m move for Jones, while Celtic are understood to be tracking Fletcher.

The same paper insists that Hearts midfielder Bruno Aguiar, will be left to take his pick between Rangers and Celtic at the end of the season.

Derby County defender Claude Davis hopes his loan spell at Crystal Palace will be turned into a permanent move, though the transfer fee remains a sticking point.

The Sun reveal that Watford boss Brendan Rogers has told the club's record-signing Nathan Ellington that he has no future at the club. Those sentiments are sure to delight the club's board.

And finally, The Sun report that Carlo Ancelotti must be heading to Stamford Bridge since the Chelsea-target has been learning English - ironically with the assistance of David Beckham.

"Every time I try to fix his English, he insists on making errors and we end up laughing," said Beckham. Oh the banter!

  4. I'd like to see a rumour about Berbatov leaving at least 3 times every week, even if its a complete lie it might actually give me hope. The more I hear about potentially losing Tevez (I realize its highly likely now), the more I envision Berbs name appearing in the starting lineup... then I cringe.

Yesterday was great. Rooney played up front as he should, we stacked the middle with pure passing quality / pace.

utd only want to sign brazilians these days. they also seem to be doing a lot of tapping up of young players and robbing the clubs that have raised them.

can I just say how muchI dislike arsenal. all we hear is how good their youngsters are but all they do is go out and sign every young player that has any potential and in a way ruin them. they sign so many who rarely play and yet they for some reson get praised for this. its about time people started criticising them for this.

cudicini should never have left chelsea. sit on a bench for a top team he loves or on the bench for a worse rival team where he is betterthan the 1st team keeper?

  7. i think tevezs fee is far too high would only pay 25m and evan that is steep as i dont think he has really proved his worth this season. He has looked very average in games. As for british players, i think man utd like to buy british players just that prem clubs seem to charge each other arm n leg for players transfering between them were as in spain and italy happens all the times and the fees are realistic.

  9. Tevez not worth the money. When he goes somewhere else in the summer it will be for less than 30m (unless it's to City!) so why would United pay over the odds.
Shame we are going the way of the rest of the top 4 and only seemed to be signing/linked to Foreign players nowadays. I like the fact that United have a backbone of British players, yet Hargreaves and Carrick remain only recent English signings.
