Fuller hopes for August return

Fri 23 May, 11:30 AM

Gillingham defender Barry Fuller is confident of being fit for the start of the League Two season in August. The 23-year-old suffered severely fractured fingers in April which required surgery and seven pins and two plates to repair the damaged joints.

Fuller is well on the road to recovery and hoping to play his part in helping the Gills make an immediate return to League One at the first time of asking.

"I'm ready for pre-season, but if the gaffer wants to have a five-a-side match I'll still need to wear a splint," said Fuller. "Hopefully come August I'll be alright.

"I've had five weeks of therapy now and although I can bend the hand I still can't clench my fist and there's no guarantee that will improve."
