Grimsby's assistant manager Stuart Watkiss has confirmed that the Mariners have made an enquiry about Northampton striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.The former Swansea striker is out of contract but has been offered a new deal to stay with the Cobblers and has also been in talks with Leyton Orient.

Watkiss said: "He is a player that we have certainly enquired about.

"The manager has spoken to his agent and we have lodged our interest but that is as far as it has gone.

"The manager is back from holiday now and Akinfenwa is one of several players he will make further enquiries about.

"He would bring a little bit of pace and power to our front line."
