O'Neill seeks to add unpredictability

Fri 23 May, 10:45 PM

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill admits he is looking to add some variety to the Villans' play during the summer transfer window.O'Neill acknowledges that his side failed to crack the defences of some of the Premier League's supposed smaller teams, when they arrived at Villa Park to play with men behind the ball.

Villa were beaten by, and failed to score against, both Sunderland and Wigan at home during the season's final few weeks as the push for Europe stalled and O'Neill is reportedly keen to add a right-winger and midfield play-maker to his ranks.

O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail: "Teams do get people behind the ball. We saw that with Sunderland and other teams at Villa Park.

"You need to have another dimension to your game, which at this minute is something we would have to work on greatly.

"The ability to break teams down at home who do not give you any space behind.

"We just didn't open teams up and, of course, you would say that when teams sit in with us but that is something we will have to try and improve on."
