Windass keen to offer experience

Fri 23 May, 12:15 PM

Dean Windass will put a protective arm around some of his younger Hull team-mates in order to help banish any nerves ahead of Saturday's game.Windass is Hull born and bred and well aware of the significance of the Championship play-off final against Bristol City - the biggest match in the Tigers' 104-year history.

The veteran striker's beloved Tigers could secure promotion to the top flight for the first time and bank an estimated £60million with victory over Gary Johnson's side.

At 39 Windass is nearing the end of his illustrious career and is determined to ensure Hull make the most of their maiden Wembley appearance.

"I think first and foremost you've got to go and enjoy it," said Windass, who has scored 14 goals this season. "I've played in big games and you've got to enjoy it.

"Enjoy the day, but play the game, don't play the occasion. If you play the occasion it might get to you a bit and I'll be saying that to a couple of the young lads. Once we cross the white line we have to play the game and the occasion will take care of itself."
