Forssell In Talks With Blues

Fri 23 May, 05:09 PM

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has confirmed talks are ongoing between Mikael Forssell's agent and the club.

The Finnish striker, whose current deal with the St Andrews club expires next month, is currently doing his national service with the army.

"It's up the club and Mikael to come to some sort of agreement," said McLeish.

"It's in the hands of Karren Brady now and she will deal with it until such time as she lets me know.

"I spoke to Mikael last week and asked him how he felt about staying on and he was positive but if the deal is not right for him he won't stay on - it's as simple as that."

If Forssell cannot agree a new deal with the club for the Coca-Cola Championship season which begins in August, McLeish has confidence in his other forwards James McFadden, Cameron Jerome and Garry O'Connor.

"We have good strikers here already," he said.

"And if Forssell doesn't stay we'd maybe like to bring somebody else in."

McLeish is confident of retaining McFadden, who was signed from Everton in January.

"McFadden of course was on fire before his injury and it was a shame to lose him at such a critical time at the end of the season," he added.

"But as far I'm concerned he's definitely staying.

"It would need to be a ridiculous offer and an offer that would enable me to bring in somebody as good or better."
