Premier League - Fabregas cleared of spitting

Eurosport - Sat, 23 May 08:48:00 2009

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been cleared of two improper conduct charges relating to claims he spat at Hull City assistant manager Brian Horton.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 FA Cup Arsenal-Hull City Bacary Sagna Cesc Fabregas - 0

Hull made the allegations after ugly scenes at the end of an FA Cup tie on March 17. Fabregas, who was not playing, came on to the pitch and was involved in a confrontation with Hull staff.

The Spaniard maintained he was innocent of Hull's claim he spat at Horton's feet, and an independent commission has found there was not enough evidence to support the charges.

The decision was made last week, but the FA wanted to delay the announcement as Hull are still embroiled in a relegation battle.

Tigers manager Phil Brown was charged with improper conduct following an outburst at referee Mike Riley, and has requested a personal hearing.

An FA statement said: "At a regulatory commission hearing, two charges of improper conduct against Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas were found not proved.

"The charges related to Fabregas's conduct following the FA Cup match between Arsenal and Hull at the Emirates Stadium on 17 March.

"One charge concerned his conduct after coming onto the pitch following the final whistle. The second charge related to an allegation of spitting."

  1. Some fans think of others as "glory hunters" because they are critical of wenger(even the best make mistakes), Alex Ferguson went through a dry spell of trophy-less seasons which he rectified. U don't think AW was wrong to sell flamini, hleb abd gilberto in one go, U don't think he was wrong to take the captain's armband from gilberto and give it to gallas who just arrived from a rival club . That just showed he didn't have any leadership until gallas arrived, that's not what u want to tell ure players. Players like Tony adams EARNED the armband!! Fabregas doesn't shout much but he is our most influential player and he has earned it. Imagine any player at any other club walking into the team and made captain from the first game, well that happened to beckham at LA galaxy but it's understandable. Gilberto was brilliant, true professional and was sold, not for poor performances, not for lack of discipline, not for lack of determination but for being OLD, and to give opportunities to youngsters.Well Old bergkamp did it very well until he retired, he was used as a squad player when he became older but was still terrifying defenders when he came on. I understand Mr Wenger trying to build for the future and he is the best man for the job no doubt about it but as everyone could tell we had a hole in the centre of midfield, who replaced him? diaby?denilson? song? none of them could stop anelka from running straight at the defence down the middle and score. Although song's had a good season, denilson is better than people give him credit for. They've got a lot of experience already for their age. Strikah says we don't need to get rid of anyone, mmmm not even sylvestre? I thought wenger pulled off another "cheap" amazing signing...WRONG!!! You have to admit recruiting center-backs is not one of Wenger's best qualities!! Bring in Adams to sort out the defence. 36 goals conceded

  7. Wouldn't it have been nice if they'd just apologised to each other and shaken hands afterwards. There's no need to get all hot and bothered about such things. Let's have a bit of sportsmanship back in football, like you see more often at non-league level. Perhaps some of the money in football needs to be redistributed more evenly across all levels of the game to avoid people getting all het up when so much - in monetary terms - rides on results.

  10. Brown and his mate Brian Horton who was a useless player, should be made to pay for making claims that didn't exist. Brown is a sore loser lets hope he goes down now just to teach him a lesson.

  11. Brown should now pay for wasting the FA's time and money. tis should come out of his pocket not Hull's coffers. He should be made to give public apology to Fabregas an be humilated just like Cesc has been over the last few months. Why should this sore loser get away with lies?

  13. we knew this already. no witnesses, no footage, Brown's story changing like a cricket live score... And for those who have clue about Law, lack of evidence means he is innocent and he is cleared from any wrongdoing.

Let's face it, he is Spanish, therefore you can take it as read that he did spit. He is Spanish, he spat, full stop. He was not cleared, the verdict was there was not enough evidence. That means nobody filmed his spitting when he was spitting, and he did
