Premier League - Fabregas cleared of spitting

Eurosport - Sat, 23 May 08:48:00 2009

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been cleared of two improper conduct charges relating to claims he spat at Hull City assistant manager Brian Horton.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 FA Cup Arsenal-Hull City Bacary Sagna Cesc Fabregas - 0

Hull made the allegations after ugly scenes at the end of an FA Cup tie on March 17. Fabregas, who was not playing, came on to the pitch and was involved in a confrontation with Hull staff.

The Spaniard maintained he was innocent of Hull's claim he spat at Horton's feet, and an independent commission has found there was not enough evidence to support the charges.

The decision was made last week, but the FA wanted to delay the announcement as Hull are still embroiled in a relegation battle.

Tigers manager Phil Brown was charged with improper conduct following an outburst at referee Mike Riley, and has requested a personal hearing.

An FA statement said: "At a regulatory commission hearing, two charges of improper conduct against Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas were found not proved.

"The charges related to Fabregas's conduct following the FA Cup match between Arsenal and Hull at the Emirates Stadium on 17 March.

"One charge concerned his conduct after coming onto the pitch following the final whistle. The second charge related to an allegation of spitting."

  12. Comment 45 aptly hit the nail on the head. I agree we do have pundits and reporters who let their personal football inclinations or loyalties get in the way of professional analyses, presentation or reporting of events. Sometimes I think SkySports is an extension of Man U! I am particularly impressed that The FA was not on this occasion, swayed by media manipulations.

  18. So Filthy Phill Brown is proved to be a liar, so perhaps a suitable punishment for him perhaps he can round up all the Hull city players at half time while they take turns spitting at him. Mug !

  19. Isnt it strange that when he was been charged, eurosport put up a picture of Fabregas looking like a thug but now he is cleared, they put up a more responsible looking picutre. So much for being "Innocent Until Proven Guilty"

  20. The duffen bloke the chair man is also delusional if he think Brown is a good manager
what sort of @#$% sits his players down in the rain on a cold winter weekend to make a point a overblown egostistical idiot thats Phil Brown
so hope he stays with Hull and they sink to the blue sq as he and duffen deserve one another
