Mowbray hoping to establish Baggies among elite

Sat 23 May, 03:22 PM

Tony Mowbray has revealed his vision to build a West Brom side capable of becoming a permanent fixture in the Barclays Premier League.

Bottom side Albion will end their current spell in the top flight after just one season when they visit Blackburn, But Mowbray has stuck to his belief and principles in not playing "survival football" and appears to have retained the backing of chairman Jeremy Peace and the club's supporters.

He said: "The disappointment of the season is there in front of us, regarding where we are and our plight, and yet I think I believe we have been a credit to the division and enhanced the Premier League.

"There are a lot of games I've seen that have been fear-driven and not particularly nice football matches to watch.

"Of course, I understand football is about winning and trying to retain your status or trying to win the title or whatever your goals are.

"But do you want to be a club where your only goal in life is to stay in the Premier League every year, finish fourth-, fifth-, sixth-bottom every year? I don't. I want to build a team which will get better every single season and see how far we can take it. We have had to take a step back this year because we didn't have quite enough."

  2. I agree totally with Garry b. I've said all season long that we can't defend, tackle in midfied or score enough goals. I just hope we can retain ALL the players worthy of staying, get rid of the rubbish. (Meite,Barnett,Valero and Moore), rebuild not to concede too many goals and for god sake buy a goalscorer,we should have bought beattie before stoke btw.

  3. I believe another great manager had a vision like this(Sir Matt) now look where Man U are now. I am not saying West Brom are the next Man.U. but given the time Sir M. B. was given and with the backing of the chairman, who knows. The supporters will give there support as all could see after the liverpool defeat. I know i will get many deriding what i have just said. As a life long supporter of WBA like all our supporters We Believe Always in our team. We are W.B.A.
