New Oldham signing Rob Purdie is relishing the prospect of playing League One football following his move from Darlington.
The 26-year-old penned a two-year deal with the Latics on Friday and is looking forward to being reunited with his former manager Dave Penney.
"When I got a call from the gaffer saying he was looking to bring me in, I had a look at Sky Sports News and I couldn`t believe it, both in terms of the clubs currently in division and those coming down," the midfielder told Oldham's official website.
"Clubs like Southampton, Charlton and Norwich will all be in this league next year and it`s huge. I would say it`s probably the best time to be playing at this level and I can`t wait to get started.
"I`m absolutely delighted to be here. I know the gaffer inside out and I`m looking forward to a successful couple of years - and hopefully the play-offs, at least.
"Dave is a very hands-on manager who likes to get involved in the training session and works well with players as individuals as well. I`m sure he will do a good job here."

I was his first assistant manager in Leicester when he was 8 years old. All the clubs Rob Purdie's been to and I've never had a penny !!!!!!!! Well chuffed for him on his latest move. All the best next season Rob. What a lovely lad.
