Gravesen to fight for Hoops shirt

Mon 23 Jun, 01:00 PM

Thomas Gravesen's agent says the Celtic midfielder could be set to stay at Parkhead and fight for selection in the final year of his contract. The former Real Madrid player spent last season at Everton after losing his place at Celtic, but was unable to revive the form he showed in an earlier spell at Goodison Park.

Gravesen would relish a move back to the Premier League, while Championship side Wolves have been linked with a move for the 32-year-old.

Asked whether Gravesen would return to Celtic for pre-season training, the Dane's agent John Sivebaek said: "I think so."

Gravesen would have to demonstrate hunger to reignite his Celtic career if he is to stand a realistic chance of featuring for Gordon Strachan's side next season.

He struggled to impose himself on the Scottish game in his first year at the club, prompting Celtic to let him leave on loan.

Former Denmark star Sivebaek has not heard from any clubs about his client, and is not convinced there is an obvious route way out of Celtic, where Gravesen has 12 months of a lucrative three-year contract remaining.

"I don't know, I've got no idea to be honest," said Sivebaek. "I've not heard anything about Wolves."

  3. He's gonna be sitting at Park Head draining the club for another season. No-one else is gonna take him of our hands. WGS can't be blamed! Who'd have thought he'd turn out to be such a liability?! Like a lot of other people I thought he was a great signing when he initially came here. Speaking of liabilities, how long has Bobo Balde got left on his £30,000 a week contract?

  5. Strach can't be blamed for Gravesen, who was to know the guy would turn out to be so rubbish. I was celebrating when we signed him, thought it was a top-drawer signing to take us to a new level so I was suprised to discover how awful he was.
