Oldham new-boy Danny Whitaker has declared the Latics are "going places" after putting pen-to-paper on a two-year contract. The 27-year-old former Port Vale midfielder turned down an improved offer from boss Lee Sinnott to join Oldham after a number of clubs - including newly-promoted Hereford - declared their interest in signing him.
Whitaker also believes that, under former Republic of Ireland international John Sheridan, the Boundary Park outfit are capable of winning promotion to the Championship next season.
He told the club's official website: "Latics are one of the clubs who are not frightened of taking a gamble and they seem to be going places.
"There were a few League Two clubs who had made offers and a couple of League One clubs too, but when John Sheridan phones you you don't turn down someone who has played in two World Cups in your midfield position.
"I am sure my general game will improve under John's guidance."
