Hoops Eyeing Stranzl - Agent

Mon 23 Jun, 01:09 PM

Celtic are interested in Spartak Moscow's Austria defender Martin Stranzl, according to the player's agent.

Stranzl was part of the Austria side which performed above expectations at Euro 2008, although they picked up only one point from their three games against Germany, Croatia and Poland.

The 28-year-old's contract expires at the end of this year, but Spartak are keen to activate a 12-month extension to keep him in the Russian capital.

However, his agent Thomas Boehm claims the centre-half would be interested in a move to Britain, and is aware of interest from the Scottish champions.

He told the Evening Times: "We know there is interest from Celtic. Gordon Strachan and his agent were in Austria to watch Martin. We'll see what happens next.

"Martin is happy at Spartak but he has always been very interested in playing for one of the big teams in England or Scotland.

"Spartak have already tabled an offer for him to stay in Moscow, but nothing is being ruled in or out at this stage."
