Blackburn have appointed Paul Ince as their new manager on a three-year contract in succession to Mark Hughes.
The former England captain, 40, enjoyed a fine season in charge of MK Dons last season, leading them to the League Two title and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - and has been heavily linked with a move to Ewood Park in recent days.
Ince, who enjoyed an illustrious playing career with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan, previously coached Macclesfield, who he saved from relegation from the Football League in 2006-07 but this will be his first management job in the top flight.
Ince's appointment makes him the first black Briton to take charge of a top-flight club in England.
Despite taking a slightly unconventional route into coaching - most players of Ince's pedigree and stature are usually offered a more glamorous job when their playing days are over - he has been a consistently impressive performer in the lower leagues and has attracted plenty of envious glances.
He earned his first manager of the month accolade while with the Silkmen, who were adrift at the bottom of League Two when he arrived only to survive the drop on the last day of the season, before taking the title on three occasions during his stint at stadium:mk.
Derby chairman Adam Pearson appeared to covet the former midfielder's services when Billy Davies left the club last term, while Wigan were also thought to be interested before appointing Steve Bruce.
He was also firmly in the frame for the Leicester job following Ian Holloway's departure but last week moved to distance himself from that job, perhaps mindful of Rovers' interest.

ince shouldnt hav left MK dons he has let us all down an 1 day we com back an beat him at blackburn!! U LET US DOWN INCE
I think Ince has the potential to steer the Rovers forward if he can keep the current squad (except for Bentley, who I think will be leaving us this summer) together. I think the one place he is going to have to prove himself is in the transfer market. Hughes was very good in the transfer market always managing to bring in a winner for that season, Bellamy (17 prem Goals), McCarthy (18), Santa Cruz (19), in consecutive seasons. Then there was the Nelsen (free), Mokoena (£500K), then Samba (£475K) to steady us at the back, all 3 brought in for less than £1 million. Hughes showed us that you dont need to pay the stupid prices being asked, to get quality players. Lets hope Incey doesn't get carried away with having a bit of money & can get the best out of the current crop & any future additions.
What a refreshing change to see a mid table team with the money and influence to attract a good for nothing "All name and no loyalty" foreign manager, electing to appoint a quality individual that has learnt his trade, which when all said and done is FOOTBALL and not media acceptability, at the heart of the game, ON THE PITCH.
Many said Hughes had insurficient experience, and he did a sterlimg job. Maybe we will see some of Ince's quality commitment and determination reflected on the pitch, and leave the "All talk brigade" to the front and back pages of the mass media market.
Good on yah Incy all the best for the seasons to come.
HERES A WAKE UP CALL TO ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO THINK YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN PAUL INCE - THE MANAGER IS ONLY AS GOOD AS HIS TEAM!!!!!. IF THE PLAYERS DONT PLAY WELL THE MANAGER ALWAYS GETS THE BLAME, THE MANAGER CANT MAKE THE PLAYERS PERFORM WELL, ALL A MANAGER CAN DO IS TRY AND PICK A TEAM THAT WORKS WELL TOGHERTHER AND GELS, AND ASK HIS TEAM TO PERFORM WELL AND ACHIEVE RESULTS. HOW DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHEATHER HE WILL BE GOOD OR BAD - GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO PROVE HE CAN DO IT, IF HE CANT HE WONT LAST LONG WILL HE - IF YOUR A TRUE FAN YOU WILL SUPPORT BLACKBURN THROUGH THICK & THIN (EVEN IF YOU THINK PAUL INCE ISNT THE RIGHT CHOICE).
well paul ince blackburn manager hmm. no disrespect to paul but i do think his appointment is a smoke screen for the club to under-achieve for the forthcoming season. leyland red.
Nice that things are turning good your way Paul. At last some sanity has resumed in some heads in the good old UK. Perhaps the nostalgia of the days of the old and real Commonwealth is rearing to be heard. Be good to your employers and do not forget you got to this position because there really is no one half as good enough like you. To the men in charge at Blackburn Rovers, see this not as being nice to an AngloAfrican, but having the courage and wisdom to reject racism and pick the right person. Your wise choice will vindicate your action. See what Frank Rykaard did at Ajax, Holland and Barcelona. The colour of a man's skin is nothing more than the depiction of the geographical location in which one's forebears were born. I have the sneakiest feeling that the appointment of the legendary midfielder, Paul Ince will usher in a new era of appointing coaches based strictly on ability to deliver and not the colour of his eyes. Even though an in and out fan of Arsenal, I will henceforth look out for Blackburn Rovers at least to monitor Ince's progress. Keep shooting.

Good luck Paul - hope will help (as expected) to Man U to retain the title.
Paul don't listen to take care people only take charge and get control of Blackburn Rovers. Your are such a brave charp who is admired by many Ugandans.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU PAUL,NEVER THOUGHT YOU WERE A GOOD PLAYER (PROVED ME WRONG)NEVER THOUGHT YOU COULD MANAGE (A W&^K) PROVED ME WRONG NOW I HOPE YOU PROVE ME AND ALL THE REST WRONG. GOOD LUCK FOR THE COMING SEASON/ SEASONS .

Good luck to you Paul
I've got 2 £10 bets down! Ince, the first Premier manager to be sacked AND Blackburn to be relegated! Safe as Houses! Message to John Williams! If you want to see 3rd division football, hire a 3rd division manager!
Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Paul Ince as a footballer, did a fine job for Man U (including other clubs) and repsresented his country well.
Turned to management and served well for lower league clubs.
Now he gets his first test in management, fair play to him, hope he succeeds.
Its a big pity that they have to make a big thing over his colour.
What difference does that make ?
Surely in a world where they want to rid the sport of racism, why make an issue of his colour?
Thats the sort of c r a p I expect from the USA!
Good one Incey, best of luck, stick one over Fergie !
Good luck Paul,
There is always a first time to everything. Life is a risk, take it! Sometimes in lfe responsibilities make you responsible and I know you will continue form where Hughes stopped and surpass his record.
The fans hail u!
all i have to say is "big up incey"!! a lot of managers just walk into the job nowadays like roy keane, mark hughes, sammy lee, steve bruce, brian robson and others with no qualifications or experience while ince works minor miracles in the lower leagues and is the only manager to win the league and not get the manager of the year award in all of the divisions!? is it cos he iz black? either way i expect him to surpass mark hughes best efforts to take blackburn up the table and become a legitimate threat in europe (uefa cup). good luck son!
Next season first division !
Well first of all to the idiot who said to put 50 notes on Rovers to get relegated .......get a life ! .....also to the person who said that Bently and Santa Cruz wants away ...very true about David Bently but very wrong over Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz has said that his wife and family are settled and he is too (for at least another season)then who knows?. The thing with Rovers is that we always find the good players and then they get bigger than themselves. Bently wanted out b4 Hughes left FACT. If they want out and don't want to play for us then let them go another player will come along look at Ronaldo!! I think that Paul Ince is the best choice for the Rovers manager and as an avid Rovers fan I am pleased with the choice. He will do OK for us .......just wait and see
paul had more managerial experience than both mark hughes and sammy lee when they took charge of a prem club.as a player he was as good as sparky and lee and roy keane.GIVE THE BLOKE A CHANCE 4 GOD SAKE.He knows football.
Paul Ince;
Like him or not, he's a footballer from the "old school". Totally coomitted to the game for what it is rather than his own personal gain.
He's woeked "miracles" at bohe Macclesfield and MK Dons with little availble resources.
He's done his apprenticeship (albiet a short one) and deserves a shot at something bbigger.
I hust hope Blackburn give him the time to build on the foundations that Mark Hughes has put in place there.
Though I have to admit I do think that "Hughsey" made a bad choice by going to Man City, a club which has achieved far less than Blackburn have done in recent years
SO MUCH FOR "I'M NOT LEAVING MK DONS" THE MAN IS A GOB SH*TE INCE MAN YOU SUC....
Good luck to him, I'm in two minds as to whether he'll succeed or not, but Mark Hughes had no club experience at all before taking over so it's not that big a jump.
