Hull 'serious' about Owen interest

Tue 23 Jun, 06:29 PM

LONDON (AFP) - English Premier League minnows Hull insist they are serious about trying to lure Newcastle striker Michael Owen to the club, according to reports.

The 29-year-old has said he wants to leave the Magpies following their relegation from the Premiership.

Owen is believed to be the subject of interest from several clubs in the UK and in Europe and would have a price tage of several million euros.

But Hull manager Phil Brown said they will be talking to representatives of the former Liverpool and Real Madrid player this week in a bid to secure his signature.

"I don't think Michael will go for the best financial offer," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail on Tuesday.

"I don't think it's about that for him at this stage of his career, he'll want the best offer for his future," he added.

Hull escaped relegation from the Premiership last month after finishing fourth from bottom, one point above Newcastle.

  3. No wonder why Newcastle got the boot from the Premiership signing the likes of Owen, who has done nothing at all since scoring the goal that put Argentina out of the 1998 World Cup in the 2nd round. Since then, he has been milking it big time. Just like most of his colleagues, he was a total waste of space in the national squad. No wonder why Capello ditched him from the squad as soon as he (Capello) got the job.

  5. Owen was our most expensive signing ever but will amazingly soon be forgotten when he eventually goes because their is nothing to remember him for. He should have been up there with Gazza, Waddle, Beardsley and Shearer etc but he could'nt hold a candle to any of those when judging him on the four years he spent with us. His signing for us more resembled that of Luque, Viana, Marcelino and Boumsong etc.
He came for money, got his money and now he's off with his money and could'nt care less what anybody thinks because as he said, to be that way you need skin like a rhino's backside and he's got that alright, the only mention of the game of football was when he spoke about England.
Capello dropped him pretty much as soon as he got the job and only Hull have so far shown any intrest in being his next victim, they can't all be wrong and it can't all be Newcastles fault, not for four years of what we got for £45,000.000.

  8. Won't go for the best financial offer?? lmao! If he had any integrity at all, he would be repaying the toon's faith in him during his injury absence, by sticking with them through their efforts to return to the premiership. He's had a great deal of money from the toon, for very little return.

Who really wants a player of that character? Good luck to Hull if they get him, at least we won't have to see his sorry @#$% again.
