A blueprint calendar for the Formula One Teams' Association's new breakaway series in 2010 has been leaked - with no fewer than 10 current or recent grand prix circuits listed amongst the 17 venues.
FOTA are at loggerheads with FIA president Max Mosley over regulations for the 2010 season, and the appearance of a schedule for the new series undermines Mosley's claim that the teams are merely "posturing" and that a resolution to the dispute is "very, very close."
Current F1 venues Monaco, Silverstone, Monza, Abu Dhabi and Singapore are all on the list of venues, while the recently discarded Imola, Montreal, Indianapolis, Magny-Cours and Suzuka are part of the draft plan.
There is also a mooted return to Jerez, the southern Spanish track that fell out of favour with F1 when the town's mayor appeared on the podium and presented a trophy that should have been given out by a dignitary from Daimler-Benz.
There is also a potential return to Adelaide, the popular home of Australian Grand Prix until 1996, when rival Melbourne took over.
"Not surprisingly Adelaide has been included because it was very, very popular when it had Formula 1," said racing consultant Mike Drewer.
"But it's a bit like trying to work out who might be the members of a cabinet if there was a change in government."
There is no race in Brazil, but Argentina and Mexico are both on the list.
In Europe, meanwhile, there is the addition of the state-of-the-art Portimao track in Portugal, which opened in 2008 and has hosted testing as well as World Superbike races.
Surfers' Paradise - which has hosted Champ Cars, IndyCars and V8s - has been nominated as a reserve venue should any of the others not be up to the grade.
F1 commercial rights-holder Ecclestone has poured cold water on the FOTA plans, claiming dissenting teams do not possess sufficient financial backing to organise their own championship.
Provisional FOTA 2010 schedule:
March 3 - Buenos Aires, Argentina - Last hosted F1 in 1998

even better is to change the actual f1 gp of europe to Portugal in Portimão. why are the spanish with 2 gp's?
By adding the fabulous circuit of Portimão in Portugal i think i would prefer the breakaway series. Having they reached an agreement now i could only hope that singapure give way, or turkey. Sorry about the people ho live there.
im loving the pre race venues break away fota & give us fans what we want cheaper race weekends & wheel 2 wheel racing fu bernie & max
What makes you so sure lukwafisher?
am kindly asking the FOTA or whoever is responsible for making the F1 calender to take the African continent for consideration am sure we can do better than our counterpart in Europe and Asia

Mr Red are you saying that Spa has been dropped from this years F1 calendar? If you are then you better let everyone know posthaste because its scheduled in as Race 12 for the 30th August.
For gegaard, have you ever been to Helsinki? The idea of a street race there is absolutely ridiculous, they would have to resurface a whole chunk of it or have it in a less attractive area.
This whole idea of having a race in Helsinki is moronic.
Adelaides track is the best in Australia. It is also the most exciting and anticipated weekend when the V8 supercars when they are on show. And it was one of the most popular F1 races of the year until 95, when the vics stole it. I hope it does break away.
Spa was dropped from F1 because it was too dangerous. the run-off areas were concrete walls. Monaco of course is not dangerous.
Belgium - since you ask.
Where is Spa Francorchamps??????
Now does anyone remember Indycars, CART, IRL and now Indycars? Plus ca change.
History always repeats itself, it has to, nobody is listening.
And the immortal comment when Charlie Chaplin et al started on their own in Hollywood.
The loonies have taken over the Asylum. Plu ca change.
For me 2 wheels good, four wheel bad. 3 wheels best because they race on the track, not in the computers. & I program PC's & websites.
For Lars Klubfoot "...a street circuit in Helsinki, Finland." - From another story regarding the 2010 FOTA schedule
There is no circuit in Helsinki.
Lars, Pajala, Sweden
I want to see F1 (or whatever they'll call them now... F-Zero?) cars racing through the cork-screw at Laguna Seca!
Will does that not tell you that the whole thing is a hoax?
One interesting fact, what TV channel will the new series be shown on? and will we have to pay for it? (Sky)?
I find it strange that this is the first place that we hear about a Helsinki track. We had a couple of years notice on Valencia and Singapore, but this one will have to go from nowhere to reality in a year, including a Finnish winter.
I don't think so.
so ecclestone reckons FOTA doesnt have enough financial backing ?........Mercedes Benz ? Renault ? Toyota ? BMW ? and FIAT ( ferrari ) ? well thats pushing 50% of the worlds motor industry (....Just get VAG , Honda & peugeot-citroen to back you for good measure ) So how much financial backing do they need you silly old fool ? Add to that all the circuit owners you and your kinky friend have p***ed off . Not to mention that sponsers TEND to follow teams and drivers .
Stick to your guns FOTA . Spilts in sports have happened before and its usually the "splitter " that comes off best
I think it is either Sepang in Malaysia or the street circuit of Singapore. Looking at the travel plan, they have to choose one. It is stupid to have both at the same period of time. It is not cost effective. Fans will attend one and won't attend the other. As a result, ticket sales will be diluted.
Let's face it, Malaysia ticket sales has always been a problem. Why is there last minute @#$% of tickets? Because sponsors or some organisation buy it and give it to the people free! My brother-in-law got the grandstand seat free, courtesy of the company he works for.
In a Malaysian GP event, 30% of the tickets are sold to the residents of Singapore and they have to travel 4 hours north.
I remember that Malaysian organiser was unhappy about the new Singapore GP. They know it will affect their ticket sales badly if the 2 GPs were held at the same period. So we end up Malaysia at the beginning of the season, and Singapore at the end of the season. This created a lot of unneccessary logistical cost. I think the FOTA calendar makes more sense in term of logistic cost.
So, they have to choose one.
