Premier League - Hull talks for Owen this week

Eurosport - Tue, 23 Jun 20:05:00 2009

Hull manager Phil Brown has revealed the club intends to speak to Michael Owen's representatives "within the week".

2008-2009 Newcastle United Michael Owen - 0

Owen confirmed on Monday he will be leaving Newcastle at the end of his contract with the former England striker available on a free transfer.

"We will be speaking to Michael's representatives within the week," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail. "I would think he would have a number of offers and we'll have to be competitive."

He added: "But I wouldn't sit down with him if I thought I was wasting my time. Anything is possible in football."

Owen claimed the link with Hull was a "new one" to him when asked about the possibility of moving to the KC Stadium.

But Brown is adamant the lure of first-team football could tempt Owen to Humberside.

He added: "I don't think Michael will go for the best financial offer, I don't think it's about that for him at this stage of his career, he'll want the best offer for his future.

"He needs to spend a high percentage of next season's games at the highest possible level and that's where we can come in."

Brown acknowledged a player with Owen's record would not come cheap, saying: "Breaking the bank is not a term the chairman would be keen on. But he's certainly someone that you would push the boat out for. He's a world-class international footballer."

  9. If you're going to play in the Championship just stay at Newcastle. I can't see them staying in the Coca Cola league long. Can't say the same for Hull.

  10. sappercommando25,sounds like a right little action man probably runs around in a darth vader mask as well. After his comments he probably forgets that us Geordies had quite a little enterprise going a few years ago. Every time that the scots bread a few cattle and sheep we used to nip over the border and pinch them. As the winter nights got longer we also took up raping a few of their women as well. Never mind sappercommando25, just think about the Geordie English and the great impression our genes made to the scotch brain and also that we may be related.

  12. You choose to use a name like "SapperCommando25", yet you call the British (probably aimed at the English) idiotic. If a you are really a "Sapper Commando" you're supposed to stand up and fight for Britain, not insult it's people.
Maybe the English team havn't had the best time over the last few decades, but you have to remember they have done better than any other UK national team. The English League is also one of the best in the world too.

  19. Hull would be good for him. He would get regular first team and from this he would improve his physical condition and get back somewhere near his best. He is too old to regain that top pot but he would be a precious gift for england who have bugger all to play with.
