Premier League - Manchester City swoop for Taylor

Manchester City have signed former England U-21 goalkeeper Stuart Taylor from Aston Villa in a move that will allow Joe Hart to leave Eastlands on loan.

Taylor, who follows Gareth Barry from Villa Park to City, will serve as back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Shay Given.

Hart meanwhile is expected to join Premier League new boys Birmingham in a season-long switch.

The 28-year-old Taylor spent four years at Villa after joining from Arsenal in 2005. He was loaned out to Championship side Cardiff last season, where he made eight apperances.

Taylor becomes City's fourth signing of the summer, following the captures of Barry, Roque Santa Cruz from Manchester City and Nils Zander from German outfit Schalke.

  5. just noticed that on the bbc website it says he is only­ signing on a one year contract. seeing as how given­ will be looking to play every game and hart will be­ back in a year it looks like he will struggle to make­ an appearance
