Cristiano Ronaldo's management company have issued a statement insisting he has given no interviews since Manchester United accepted an £80 million offer for his services from Real Madrid on June 11.

Stories appeared over the weekend in the English press with quotes attributed to the 24-year-old Portugal winger regarding his potential move to the Spanish capital.

However, Gestifute issued a statement reiterating the player has not spoken to the press.

It read: "Given the strident way that statements allegedly attributed to Cristiano Ronaldo have been printed, particularly in the English media, Gestifute reiterates what it recently stated: Cristiano Ronaldo has been silent since he went on holiday and all statements (in which he is supposedly quoted) are totally false and abusive.

"The best player in the world - who is spending the off-season with his family - has not, to date, given any interviews, nor will he in the next few days.

"As a result, it can be restated here that any statements that are still being attributed to him are devoid of truth and authenticity and must not be taken seriously."

What this illustrates is that all the opinions about­ Ronaldo (or other players for that matter) posted on­ blogs like this are not based on ANY first hand­ knowledge but rather on what the MEDIA feeds to the­ general public. Most of which are lies and fabrications­ (particularly in England) with the sole objective of­ increasing media sales. Is Ronaldo such a horrible­ guy? No, he probably isn't. But printing lies in­ order to drum up public haterd of a player sells, and­ is "good" business for the media.

    this is­ business. hard, cold money decides what these players­ say and who they play for. half of them don't even­ know what decisions are being made and the reasons for­ these decisions. they have agents, who often rip them­ off too, agents you use their players as bargaining­ power to get other players in their roster into a team.­ and so on.
    and even if CR or others were in full­ control of their 'destiny': why would they put­ any value in telling the fans the truth? what do you­ expect from a football player? given the choice i would­ rather watch a match between two teams who display­ excellent skills & play exciting football, than­ players I want to believe are truthful, loyal nice­ people. you're never going to be spending time with­ these people anyway, so why care what they're­ really like? enjoy watching them do wonderful things on­ the pitch!

    It's not a matter of lying or­ truth or 2-facedness, it's a case of pure ambition­ and egomania, which are also ingredients of what makes­ him play so well. a player like CR will ALWAYS be loved­ by enough people, he does not care whether manU fans­ hate him. why would he? if he steps out of a hotel just­ about anywhere in the world he'll be surrounded by­ enough adoring and 'willing' fans. he can­ ignore the few hundred thousand British supporters who­ curse him.

    More interesting is why anybody thinks­ players should be honest and nice? why do you want them­ to be honest? they're football players, not your­ friends. they are paid for their skill &­ entertainment value. put ball in net, stay in public­ imagination enough to sell shirts and sell broadcasting­ rights to other countries. who cares if they are divas,­ liars, not nice people? and how does anybody know who­ is telling lies? surely nobody is naive enough to­ believe their announcements at press conferences or­ interviews? these are scripted promotional tools! next­ you'll be telling me that politicians tell the­ truth when they open their mouths.
