Bendtner can test the best - Wenger

Tue, 23 Jun 15:53:34 2009

Arsene Wenger maintains when young Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner is fully focused he can be a "handful for any defence in the world".

Bendtner scored 15 goals from a total of 50 appearances last season in all competitions, often coming from the bench as an impact player and Wenger has no intentions of letting any of his current squad leave, and the club are close to finalising a new contract for leading scorer Robin van Persie.

"Nicklas has made big improvements since the start of the season. He has become an important player for this club," Wenger said in the July edition of the official Arsenal magazine. "When Nicklas is really switched on and focused, he is a handful for any defence in the world."

He added: "He has shown that in the second part of the season.

"People forget how young he is, but I am sure he has won many people over in the second half of the season."

  2. wow samy, what a d**k. you dont have a f**king clue do you. if i was you i would f**k off down to white hart lane because arsenal doesnt need tw*ts like you supporting them. and until bendtner starts scoring most of the chances that he gets, i cant stand him and he needs to put more effort in, especially when he actually gets a chance to start a game. but until then i say play SUPER VELA!

  4. give him a chance and let him prove himself this season i think he could surprise a lot of people

  5. Bendtner did show some flashes of brilliance. He just needs to be more consistent and put his ego in check. I also hope it is true that RVP has officially signed a new deal with the Gunners. He's definitely a much needed player.

  6. Looking at statistics only; v Persie 11 goals, Adebayor 10 goals, Bendtner 9. This is only the premier league but considering Bendtner is only 20 years old and comes on as a substitute for the majority of the time that is pretty impressive.

Bendtner is averaging a goal every 195 minutes played
Adebayor is averaging a goal every 190 minutes played
v Persie is averaging a goal every 201 minutes played

These numbers all refer to the premier league, but they seem to speak for themselves. He may have so many missed chances because he has a knack for getting the ball in front of the goal, whereas the other players do not.

I did not provide my opinion in this, only statistics.

  7. Bendtner will surprise every doubter this coming season. Just give him some support, besides he's just 21, he will come good. Gunners 4life.

  8. The guy's an absolute joke. Misses chance after chance and should be ashamed to call himself a striker.
Arsenal should get rid of him and send him to some club at the bottom of the table where he belongs.
Instead they should get Huntelaar or give Vela more of a run in the fist team.

  10. arsenal should sell adebayor for £30/40million and bendnar £10mill if they can, then buy ballotelli from inter. 4 players up front of van persie, eduardo, balotelli and arshavin gives a lot of different styles of play and sounds pretty decent to me and the extra cash could be used for strengthening the back. just an idea from a man city fan

calm down herbert!!! i just read wenger wants to keep the current squad together!!! ohhhhhhoooooo....one year earlier and we surely would have won something this year...wenger made too many mistakes and therefore has to leave...how do you wanna explain all the departures over the last few years, with no replacements of the same calibre coming in??? that's ridicoulus...at any other club in the world he would heve been fired already, maybe even at ipswich town...if he said "come on people, forget about titles and success because we're in a rebuilding process right now", i would not have said anything...but this guy is talking about titles all the time and he wins NOTHING!!! he's such a loser!!! all the titles he won was because of the squad he had in the beginning...and these players were not assembled by him, at least the biggest part of them!!! even i could have won titles with this squad...FULLSTOP

  12. Give him another chance he could still turn out good. Dont get me wrong I thought he was the worst striker in Arsenals history but towards the end of the season he showed enthusiam which is a lot more than most and his work rate complies with "Arsenal football" wearing out of opponents.

this guy will never win me over!! he is the worst player ever to wear an arsenal shirt...the problem is he can't be sold because nobody would even pay a penny for him...i'm one of the biggest arsenal supporters in the universe, but i simply hate this guy...he does not fit in at all...unfortunately, wenger sticks with him, but his decision-makingover the last few years, especially regarding player transfers and issues, have led me to the feeling that i would not miss wenger one bit if he left, and bendtner as well...with those two still in our ranks, we will never ever win a title again....please leave...both of you!!!

  15. I think Wenger is right. OK Bendtner made a lot of errors with his ball control last year. But unlike Ade he gave his all. He worked hard while on the pitch and put himself about in front of goal. So, another year with the Gunners will do him no harm and maybe he will get some useful goals.

  18. Please Arsene you must be joking, Bendtner couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo, how many sitters did he miss last season?? Buy established quality now, like Huntelaar, and we can win the EPL and Champions League.

  19. No he hasn't, I was a huge fan when he was playing for the reserves and partnering Lupoli. And i actually introduced him as a major prospect to other Gonners but he has been disappointing and even an admirer like myself could no longer defend his erractic and often infuriating play. If Wenger rates him, then i'm willing to give a the benefit 'cos i trust "Wenger Knows", but he'd better get his focus soon,as we are not all as patient as the Prof.
