Grimsby have vowed to do `everything possible' to bring Leeds midfielder Peter Sweeney back to Blundell Park.
The 24-year-old had a brief loan spell with the Mariners towards the end of last season, featuring in eight matches as Mike Newell's side avoided relegation.
Newell is keen to seal a permanent deal for Sweeney, and ho told the club's official website: "The chairman is working hard on that. We will do everything possible to try and persuade the player that this is the place he should come to play.
"I know he enjoyed his time here. It was a successful time. If you look at the rest of the season, those last 12 or so games were our most successful spell.
"He is a good lad on and off the pitch and he has good ability. I have said it before that he is a player I am really keen on and I would like to get him to Grimsby. It is something we are working on."
