Irvine: North End will be ready

Wed 23 Jul, 11:35 AM

Preston manager Alan Irvine admitted that a lack of preparation was responsible for Everton's goal in the 1-0 friendly defeat at Deepdale.Former Sheffield United man Phil Jagielka scored the winner with a header from a corner and Irvine insisted that his side will not be caught out in similar fashion once the new Championship season is underway.

He said: "The goal came from a set-piece and I'll take responsibility for that because we haven't done anything yet on them - for or against.

"The lads have been left to their own devices as far as they are concerned but that won't happen come the start of the season.

"I was really pleased with the way we passed the ball but in the final third we just needed that cutting edge."
