Scolari shrugs off Fergie comments

Wed 23 Jul, 04:45 PM

Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari refused to be drawn into a pre-season war of words with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.Ferguson insisted he is unconcerned by Chelsea's credentials to challenge United for the Premier League crown this season, stating they were too old, and pointed towards Arsenal and Liverpool as his side's rivals.

But after watching his new side open their pre-season tour of Asia and Russia with a comfortable 4-0 win over Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Pharmaceutical today, Scolari refused to use his first opportunity to retaliate.

"I will not answer this question. This is not a question for me," Scolari said.

"I think I have a lot of experienced players and also some young boys in my team but I feel we have experience for the Premier League or whatever league."

Salomon Kalou, Frank Lampard, Argentinian teenager Franco Di Santo and Shaun Wright-Phillips all scored as Chelsea eased to victory in the southern Chinese city.

"I think it is normal for a first game," added Scolari. "The players have trained well for the last two weeks, more fitness than technical training."

  9. Scolari should take a leaf off Mourihno book - now that was a man that had Fergie rattled. And the results are there for all to see. I am neither a Man U or Chelsea fan, but pity Mourhino has taken his colour to the Italian league.

  16. I love how Ferguson is talking about players being "old"

The guy was Jesus's manager for heavens sake.

Seems as though you're spot on saying his a tad worried.

CFC had a non-involved, terrible substituting zombie as manager last season, and still could've taken CL. Ferguson should thank Russia for the terrible pitch conditons, because they were had.

I cant wait to see their smug faces at the end of this year's campaign.

From Craig H, on Wed 23 Jul 6:54PM
  17. Fergusson is afraid of Chelsea, he is trying to hide his worry by unwanted or uncalled attack on Chelsea's new manager.A true Winner knows how to response to people like him, thus Scolari.

From paulomarshie, on Wed 23 Jul 6:49PM
  18. why did scolari not say something back, then maybe a feud but he's a soilspot and played it safe
