Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has confirmed that he has opened contract talks with former Wales international defender Ben Thatcher.The ex-Manchester City left-back, 32, has been on trial at Portman Road since he was released by Charlton and impressed on the pre-season tour to Northern Ireland.

Magilton told the club's official website: "I have spoken to Ben and the talks went well.

"It's early days though and he is weighing up his options before we look at taking it any further."
