Golden Boy Out To Land The Big One

Wed 23 Jul, 11:17 AM

Oscar De La Hoya says he's ready for anybody in his final bout, including Manny Pacquiao.

The possibility of a Pacman/Oscar match seemed like pie in the sky when first mooted.

But it's gathered pace recently and Pacquiao's demolition of David Diaz in his first step up to lightweight added weight to the argument in favour.

Since then Pacman's trainer Freddie Roach has lobbied for Manny to take on Oscar while he has the chance, claiming he would "annihilate" the Golden Boy.

De La Hoya - who is set to end his glittering career with one final bout on December - says there are a number of possibilities.

"There is a possibility of a fight with Manny Pacquiao," he told fightnews.com.

"In his bout with David Diaz, I expected him to win. He brought speed and strength. I feel that he needs another bout with (Juan Manuel) Marquez. The bout with David Diaz did not sell the way they thought it would.

"Does Pacquiao need Marquez? Absolutely."

The identity of Oscar's final opponent remains unnamed, but Oscar says he's simply told Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer to bring him the biggest fight out there.

"Whoever it is, that is who we want. There is no particular fighter. Sergio Mora is a possibility. The winner of the Cotto-Margarito fight would be a great way to end my career. There is a lot of options. I am willing to fight whomever."
