Limond Looking Ahead

Wed 23 Jul, 12:09 PM

Willie Limond has vowed to be in peak condition when the new date for his fight against Dmitriy Salita is confirmed.

The 29-year-old from Garthamlock was due to face the US-based Ukrainian on September 20 in Madison Square Garden in New York on the undercard of Joe Calzaghe's bout with Roy Jones Jr.

But a wrist injury sustained by the Welshman has forced the whole show to be put back to November, leaving Limond kicking his heels for now, with November now a possibility for the fight.

Limond said: "I'm very disappointed that my fight has been postponed but at least the show will still go on in November.

"The delay also gives me time to prepare more thoroughly for the light-welterweight division.

"I will be staying in the gym preparing for this fight and working to build myself up and get in shape for the higher weight division."

Although it has not been decided what title belt Limond and Salita will contest, their fight will be over 12 rounds for one of the light-welterweight division's vacant straps.

That means the opportunity to add to his EU super-featherweight, Celtic super-featherweight, Commonwealth lightweight and IBO intercontinental lightweight titles to become a three-division champion.

Limond added: "Salita looks like a good fighter going by the footage I have seen so far.

"I'm going to have to be on top of my game to pull this one off.

"I'm also looking forward to hopefully winning another title so I can say that I have won titles in three different weight divisions."
