Work-rider David McMinn needed to be resuscitated 17 times following a dramatic fall on the Lambourn gallops on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old was riding second lot for Jane Chapple-Hyam when he was flung from his mount and hit the plastic running rail.
One of the first on the scene was Tom Lovell-Stagg, operations manager for Jockey Club Estates. He told the Racing Post: "When I got there, David had stopped breathing and I applied chest compressions.
"He revived, and I called ambulance control. He stopped breathing again and I gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. We lost him again 14 times in the 30 minutes before the arrival of the Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
"The onboard doctor revived him with a defibrillator, making 17 times in all.
"It was a frightening incident for everyone involved and I'm so relieved that it looks as though everything will be all right."
McMinn's condition was said to be stable and comfortable on Tuesday night, though it is understood he may have punctured a lung in his fall.
