Jorge Lorenzo will spent 10 days with his left foot in plaster after his injury was found to be worse than at first thought.

The Spaniard has broken the third, fourth and fifth metatarsal bones - not just the third and fifth - and faces a race against time to return for the Czech Grand Prix in Brno on August 17.

"I'm in a quite a lot of pain and angry, because this new fall stops my progress," said Lorenzo.

"I have plaster in my left foot but I can hardly walk because my right foot also hurts from the impact, although fortunately there are no injuries.

"Luckily I have time to recover for Brno, even if I'm left with no vacation."

The Yamaha rider suffered the injury in a spectacular crash on the first lap of the American Grand Prix at Laguna Seca on Sunday, his second major injury of the season after breaking both ankles at Shanghai in May.

  1. if he can settle down and keep the bike upright he is going to be a major player in the next few years

  2. If he makes it through this season he will be a Rossi of the future, he has it all. Guts, Determinination, talent & personality (take note Stoner). Shame about the tyres though.

  3. I saw his injury as they were giving him a ride away from the track on a scooter. His left foot was already in a makeshift cast and the poor kid looked extremely upset. Another thing, he looks like a 16 year old in person, I didn't recognize him until my buddy said, "get out of the way, Lorenzo's coming through."

  5. i think lorenzo has in many accidents than most os the other drivers..two major accidents(shanghai and laguna seca)and i think two minors(le mans and the german.me thinks)he is definitely tough for a guy his size..and riding in shanghai with two broken ankles and claiming second step on the podium..he is definitely something, only shows how determined he is in improving himself and proving to the people that he is worthy to be Rossi's team mate...surely,great things will happen to him in the future, maybe even drivers championship crown...good luck to jorge and the yamaha-fiat team...specially to Rossi..

  7. Pay this guy his dues, he tries very hard, is on a steep learning curve, its not easy being Rossi`s team mate (look at the history books) and he is the successor to Rossi`s crown.

  9. Tough? Unlucky, methinks. Hope he gets back on track soon. Though maybe he's in the wrong job if he can't keep it on 2 wheels!
