Frank Gary was the winner of event 41, the $1500 Mixed Hold'em - limit/no-limit, at the World Series of Poker.

The 42-year-old from Florida took the $219,562 first prize after beating 730 opponents at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The former IT worker only turned professional a year ago and this was comfortably the biggest payday of his career with his previous best being a 19th finish in a WSOP Circuit event in Indiana.

But it was Nick Binger who made all the early running, eliminating all of the first six players at the final table including initital chip leader Mats Gavatin.

Binger had 65% of the 2.2 million chips in play as three handed play began with 22-year-old Jonathan Tamyo completing the line-up.

Tamayo chipped away at Binger's lead of over 1 million chips and had vaulted into top position at the dinner break.

Tamayo eventually eliminated Binger with pocket queens to give him a 2-1 chip lead entering heads-up but Gary pulled level in a see-saw battle before clinching his first WSOP bracelet.
