Manchester City have confirmed that Ecuador international striker Felipe Caicedo has joined Sporting Lisbon in Portugal on a season-long loan.
The summer arrivals of Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Roque Santa Cruz mean the Ecuador striker's first-team chances would probably have been very limited.
And after interest from Sporting, the 20-year-old quickly wrapped up a move to Portugal.
"My objective is to play and to demonstrate that I can triumph in Europe," Caicedo said, adding that he saw the switch as a "personal challenge".
But the striker admitted that his decision was underpinned by the lack of first team football likely to be on offer at Eastlands.
"City have many forwards who have arrived this summer and they have complicated my presence. For me it is difficult to get in the starting XI."

Great signing for a club like Sporting Clube de Portugal. If he has his head screwed on straight, and keeps away from Lisbon`s nightlife, which have proved to be many a previous player`s downfall, he may be a striker to lookout for. Strong and physical with decent feet at least he will give Postiga and Liedson a run for their money. Better a hungry, promising 20-year old, than a down-and-out, expensive and over the hill 27 year-old like Saviola, Aimar, etc.
got all our strikers sorted now we need 4 defenders so dunne can bugger off to burger king
im glad to see him go he was @#$% and i dont know wy hughes played him
Hes @#$% so laters.
Benjani next
Bojinov may also go
That leaves
Tevez
Adebayor
Santa Cruz
Robinho
With Bellamy used as a impact player...
Not so over crowded as "some" would like to suggest!
hahha comment two that really made me laugh well:D thanks :D
but ye at least one of the few Man City players that has brains and realizes that he'll NOT play next season.....
I guess Man City are doing better in that sense than Real Madrid.... they've barely sold any players (J.Garcia and Saviola only) and City got rid of Evans and Caicedo already in a far shorter time span.....
1 down 9 to go
He is being very realistic on his chances of a start etc.
Sort of glad he is only on loan as he is a good goal poacher, but i cannot see him ever returning...
Good luck Felipe, you will be missed.
"He comes from Ecuador, he love to F***ing score, Caicedo....Caicedo!!!!"
