USA have been eliminated from the volleyball World League finals after crashing to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Russia in Belgrade.

The match was close with the sets going 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 but it is a second consecutive whitewash defeat for the States after their 3-0 defeat to hosts Serbia on Wednesday.

Serbia and Russia have both now secured a semi-final spot and will play on Friday to see who advances as pool winners.

In the other pool, Brazil enjoyed a 3-1 success over Cuba in their opening match of the final round.

Cuba will still qualify if Brazil can beat Argentina on Friday, as they beat the Argentines 3-1 on Wednesday.
