Poland's Anita Wlodarczyk broke the women's world hammer record with her second round throw of 77.96 metres at the World Championships in Berlin.
Russian Tatyana Lysenko set the previous best of 77.80 in Tallinn in 2006.
Wlodarczyk, the world leader with 77.20 coming into the championships, will collect $100,000 for the record, the third of the championships so far following Jamaica's Usain Bolt in the men's 100 and 200 metres.
The Pole passed on her third attempt in the competition, which ends later on Saturday.
