Burnley secured their second Premier League win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Everton at Turf Moor.
Having started the brighter, Burnley took the lead against a backdrop of Everton pressure and chances, Wade Elliott guiding the ball past Tim Howard via a Phil Neville deflection.
Everton had plenty of chances to draw level; the most notable of which was a Louis Saha penalty that he arched wide of the post, but last year's fifth-placed side lie bottom of the league following two defeats from their opening two games.
Clearly still carrying some psychological baggage from last weekend's 6-1 mauling at the hands of Arsenal, Everton started nervously and were almost behind after a minute.
The Toffees looked uncharacteristically unorganised, and Martin Paterson was left unmarked to thud a header against the bar before Joseph Yobo cleared.
Unable to shake the cobwebs, the Toffees found themselves under siege and if it were not for two timely Neville interceptions they could have been at least a goal down within the opening 15 minutes.
Having settled, the Merseyside club began to find fluidity and worked the ball well for Tony Hibbert. The right-back's cross was tantalisingly close to the out-stretched boot of Saha.
Now in control of the midfield, Everton were exposing gaps behind the Burnley full-backs. This time Steven Pienaar cut inside to fire goal-wards but the imposing figure of Clark Carlisle blocked the South African's effort.
Just as it seemed a matter of time before Everton took the lead, Elliott struck a sucker punch.
Having picked up a loose ball, Steven Fletcher found Elliott just inside the box. The winger opened his body and tried to whip the ball around Neville and into Howard's top right-hand corner - it was probably going in anyway but the deflection left Howard with no chance.
Everton just about edged a poor first half but couldn't muster an equaliser.
The visitors, although chasing the game, persisted with Saha up front on his own as late as the 66th minute. With the introduction of Jo, Everton instantly looked more threatening.
The Brazilian flashed a couple of efforts wide before Hibbert charged forward to win a dubious penalty, which Saha dragged wide.
Everton went on to dominate and Saha had the ball in the net only for referee Phil Dowd to disallow it for an infringement. Yet, Saha appeared galvanised by his penalty miss and struck a beautiful half-volley just wide.
Burnley had the odd break away chance, the pick of which was Chris McCann's wonderfully improvised overhead kick that Howard was equal to.
Bikey gave Everton one last chance to salvage a draw but Jo could only fire the free-kick straight at the wall.

Ref comment 64 please excuse my ignorance who the heck is Zaki when he's at home ?
Only three games gone and Burnley hit the headlines. It is upsets like this which is good for the Premier League. How boring would it be if it was similar to the Scottish Premier League where it is a two horse race season after season. This is no fault of Celtic and Rangers who to be quite brutal need to be competing with the likes of Liverpool, Man U. Chelsea, Arsenal and the team in form Spurs. on a regular basis. Apologies to other Scottish sides.
When Zaki will sign for Burnley?
he isn`t bad player
i hope he can join Burnley
he will do very well
i am sure
XD Burnley seem to be trying to win the EPL lol
Superb Burnley, you gave us a right battering and much needed, you could have won the match by 2 or 3 more, we started and continued to look second place to your teams determination and effort.
If you carry on like this you will be looking at a top 5 finish to the season !! and we will be where we deserve to be along with BLACKBURN at the bottom..
From an Evertonian fan and exile
What the hell are some of you so called football fans on? Burnley where riding their look again like they did against united, and good look to them. They got their goal adn defended it. That is football for you, and at times you can play world class and still loose to a team that is nowere near as good as yours but you loose. If you ever played football yourself you know what i am talking about. So come on and stop getting on your managers and players back and just applaude the other team for winning, even if it hurts, like i did when we lost last week. You never know, your team might beat liverpool or chelsea next and all is forgotten.
Excellent stuff Burnley!!...always had a soft spot for the clarets.... love from a City fan!.
Hey andrew n. You a toffee. You don't even know the name of your team manager. It's "Moyes". and he is the root of all your problems so far this season...

It was Lescott's doing for screwing up the heads of the players. And the way he played the first game of the season he did that out of spite! Just hope DM has someone lined up ready as we do need fresh blood in the team. But to be honest I don't think we will get out of the bottom half till after the Jan window where DM have more time to buy players. Then we could rise up to the top half but to be honest I don't think we be up there in the top 5 this year. Plus DM has got to get rid of Hibbert He way past it and he proved it yet again. Just some time soon we can get on and win a game and start to move on after the Lescott mess. As many said money rules the game now! And I can't see why DM get the blame? It down to the players at the end of the day and there no funding for DM to buy decent players so now we could get money from Lescott and get some fresh legs in and see if they can prove me wrong!. From a Everton supporter.
everton are @#$%
WILLIAM, it has to do with Lescott saga. Such drama impacts on all players and not only him. Moyes should have sold him quickly instead of thinking he can say say ''No'' and things would be back to normal. But I believe Everton will bounce back in time to mount a CL qualification pressure.
I do not know why Everton appear to have lost so much confidence playing in the Premiership. The team seem to go into each game expecting to lose and until the players believe in themselves and play as well as they know they can play our awful run could well continue. I am amazed that Moyes has not been able to provide the motivation required. Everton have to realise that if you lose the first four games the chances of setting up a winning run becomes much more difficult and as we have seen in the past Everton are not that good at getting off the bottom.
two games in and so many *hit comments,EVERTON will bounce back an finish higher than most so go *u ck your self
burnley will foul like hull
