Wagh revives Notts fortunes

Mark Wagh's third first-class hundred of the season helped second-placed Nottinghamshire clinch a draw on the final day of their LV County Championship Division One match against Hampshire.

Lowly Hampshire enforced the follow-on at Trent Bridge after Nottinghamshire were all out for 407 in their first innings on Friday night, in reply to Hampshire's 654 for eight.

It had taken a century from former England wicketkeeper Chris Read and useful contributions down the order to ensure the home side reached respectability on Friday, but Wagh took responsibility and his 136 not out knitted the batting together.

Nottinghamshire were 271 for four - 24 runs ahead - when the captains agreed to settle for a draw.

Defending champions Durham have a 37-point lead at the top of Division One, having eased to an eight-wicket win against Warwickshire at Chester-le-Street on Friday.

Third-placed Somerset secured maximum batting points in their match against Sussex at Taunton, but only 11 wickets fell in the 297 overs of the match which finished in a draw.

Sussex amassed 742 for five, declaring at tea on day two with Murray Goodwin on 344 not out, however Somerset's reply was dogged by rain interruptions. They resumed on Saturday morning on 164 without loss and finished the day on 521 for six.

Opener Arul Suppiah made a patient 133, Craig Kieswetter scored a rapid 133 not out, while Peter Trego smashed 67 from 62 balls and Omari Banks added 53 from 41 deliveries.

Seventh-placed Yorkshire had been looking to force victory over Lancashire in the Roses match at Headingley, after taking a first-innings lead of 153.

However they were thwarted by solid batting from the visitors to Leeds, as another match finished in a draw.
