Blackpool manager Ian Holloway was proud of his side after they gave Premier League Stoke a huge scare in their Carling Cup third-round tie.
The Tangerines stormed into a 2-0 lead at the Britannia Stadium but were sunk by Andy Griffin's stoppage-time winner after a turbulent 90 minutes.
Holloway believes his players deserved better but could learn from Stoke's battling spirit.
"I was in dreamland at 2-0 but I know Tony Pulis' teams never stop and they have a lot of quality," said the Blackpool boss.
"I thought it might be our night when our goalkeeper saved a penalty but then we had a mad spell, although I felt we deserved to take the game into extra time."
The night was overshadowed by allegations of racist abuse directed towards Blackpool striker Jason Euell, and Staffordshire Police have on Wednesday confirmed a 47-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident.

All the championship visitors to Bloomfield Road know that 'Pool are an 'excellent' team,' particularly at home.
Thus, they will come with a plan which will vary between 'damage limitation' or possible 'victory,' depending upon how realistically they rate their strengths.
'Pool must think about handling away fixtures properly. A higher percentage of championship teams believe they have a chance at home to 'Pool. There must not be a return to the Crystal Palace fiasco, a few weeks ago!
OK, that's history now and since then there have been signs of significant improvement (eg. Swansea-away)
