Colchester player/coach Gary Holt has left his role at the Community Stadium.

The 36-year-old midfielder was brought to the club by previous boss Paul Lambert but he has now opted to move on following the Scotsman's departure to Norwich and Adrian Boothroyd's subsequent appointment at Colchester.

"Gary came to see me and said he thought it would be best for both parties for him to move on," said Boothroyd.

"I know Gary from our time at Norwich and there was no animosity, I respect his decision. We have parted on good terms and I will wish him well for the future."
