Liu on a roll in Trophy

Chinese star Liu Song built on his fine performance in last week's Grand Prix by progressing to the second qualifying round of the Northern Ireland Trophy.

Liu whitewashed Gareth Coppack 5-0 in Prestatyn to set up a clash against Jimmy Michie.

The 24-year-old Beijing-born player enjoyed his best-ever performance in a ranking event at the Royal London Watches GP in Aberdeen, coming through a tough group in the round-robin stages before shocking Stephen Maguire in the last 16, although he was knocked out in the quarter-finals by eventual winner Marco Fu.

Maltese legend Tony Drago was the biggest name to fall in the first qualifying round at Pontins, losing 5-4 to Issara Kachaiwong.

The Northern Ireland Trophy runs from November 4-11 at The Waterfront Hall in Belfast, with Ding Junhui the defending champion.
