Bernucci (pictured) and Spezialetti join Alessandro Petacchi and Daniele Pietropolli in moving from the LPR Brakes team to Lampre-NGC.

"Lorenzo's skill to be useful in different situations is the main value if a very good ride," team manager Giuseppe Saronni said.

"That's why we decided to sign him; we hope to see good performances in the classics and as a base for Petacchi's victories."

Bernucci won stage six of the Tour de France in 2005 with T-Mobile before testing positive for weight control drug Sibutramine two years later.

The 30-year-old admitted taking the drug, saying he had been taking it for years and had been unaware that the substance had been added to the list of banned substances in 2006.

T-Mobile judged he had broken the internal code of conduct and fired Bernucci, who then joined LPR Brakes at the beginning of 2009.

Spezialetti is best known for being Danilo di Luca's support during major tours, including the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia.

  1. Why should Garmin employ David Millar in that case? It's not fair to pick and chose which past dopers are given another chance and which get consigned to the bin. The rules are the rules and until they're changed, all riders deserve another chance - including Basso, Ricco, Vino..............whoever. If longer/life bans are introduced, then so be it. I know the wider public see Millar as some shining light in the fight against doping, but let's not forget, he was Mr Denial for 18 months, before he found the 'strength' to confess (once the EPO had been found in his house, of course). Don't get me wrong, Millar deserved a second chances, just like everyone else.
