Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers after suffering concussion last week against the New York Jets.

Edwards, who has been unable to take part in practice this week, will be replaced as starting quarterback by Ryan Fitzpatrick.

"He (Edwards) is progressing like he's supposed to progress after what he's had," Bills head athletic trainer Bud Carpenter said. "No setbacks."

Buffalo will also be without starting safeties Donte Whitner and Bryan Scott for Sunday's game. Both players have ankle injuries.

The Bills are 2-4 this season and prop up the standings in the American Football Conference's East division.
