The 14-year-old again got the better of team-mate Natalie Jones as she clocked 1.17.57, one of five British gold medal-winning performances in Reykjavik on Thursday.

"I am really happy to have won that because every time I get in to race I want to win," said Simmonds.

"I have moved on from Beijing because I have come here and won four gold medals instead of the two."

Heather Frederiksen - who broke the world record in Wednesday's 50m freestyle - was pushed all the way by Russia's Anna Vengerovskaya in the 100m butterfly final.

"She really made me work hard for that win but I remember her from Beijing," she said, after claiming her third gold of the week in 1.16.33

"I knew she would be tough to beat and I knew that when we got to the wall I would really have to work for it but I just kept going."

Matthew Walker took the 100m freestyle while Louise Watkin claimed her third gold medal of the championships with a confident victory in the 50m freestyle and Daniel Pepper won his second title in the 200m medley.

"I just kept my head down and went for it," said Walker, who touched home just ahead of team-mate Jonathan Fox in 1.03.38.

"I was hoping for a faster time. I just got in there knowing I had to do the job and hopefully I have put myself in line for the relay."
