Tottenham captain Ledley King appears set to stay at White Hart Lane beyond the end of this season.
The 29-year-old centre-back has a deal until next summer. But it has emerged Spurs have an option to extend his current contract by a year, and it is understood he has no desire to play for another team.
Boss Harry Redknapp said: "I'd love to keep Ledley here, for sure. He's a big part of this football club - I think he's a special player and a special guy. He's come through this football club, and you need to keep players like that at the club."
King has a chronic knee condition that limits his training and means he cannot play matches in quick succession - but he has managed the injury and played 29 times last season. This season, he has played in six of Spurs' nine Barclays Premier League matches.
King makes a huge difference to Spurs' performances, according to midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
"I hope he will stay at Spurs for a long time to come," Jenas told the London Evening Standard.
"When Ledley is fit, he is one of the best defenders in the world. How can you not miss him?
"You see the difference and you feel the difference when he is not playing. That is not just me saying that, because all our centre-halves respect him.
"All our other centre-halves have performed superbly when called on. But taking Ledley out of a side is like taking Cristiano Ronaldo - or any of the best players in the world - out of a team. Any team would miss Ledley."

King is a legend, we need a captain who can play every game, Harry and Led understand this, hence Keane club captain. Next season with Woody fit, we'll see who is captain!

As far as I am aware Ledley King is Club Captain and Robbie is Team Captain dont ask me what it means but im sure that is the way it is and I have been a spurs fan all my life. COYS.
He should be club captain when he plays he should be wearing the armband simple as, the service he has given the club since he was a kid he unbelievable including being the only decent defender spurs had for a while he led that team when most others didn't give a @#$%. I remember a few years back watching a liverpool game when redknapp was captain up there he'd been injured and came off the bench the first thing ROBBIE FOWLER did was walk over and put the armband on his arm cos he was captain deosn't matter if he's injured more than most he deserved more than having the captaincy taken off of him without being sold.
Tottenham are happy to tolerate his injuries becaause when he plays he is outstanding.
King hasn't been the Club Captain for a while. Keane is the captain.
how can he be captain when he does'nt play ?
King should leave, the way redknapp has treated him is a disgrace to take the captiancy of off a player who's been at the club as long as he has and give it to a player that left and had to come back with his tail between his legs is a joke.
why not? he's good but then again what team would take him with his injury issues? the fact is he plays for a good team and gets time on the pitch when hes fit. Tottenham have shown alot of patience with his injuries and i think they are linked very solidly. He is better off being there than being marginalised in another team due to injuries
